Band Instrument Repair Program - Fall Semester
The students are split into two groups. In the fall semester, one group starts with woodwinds (8 weeks) and then moves on to brass (8 weeks). The other group begins with brass (8 weeks) and then moves on to woodwinds (8 weeks). The groups continue in the spring semester alternating between brass and woodwinds.
The students in the brass group begin with the trumpet, learning what brass is, how trumpets are made and assembled, and getting hands-on experience in how to repair dents and soldering.
Students in the woodwind group begin with clarinet, then flute re-pads where they learn about materials, metals, key relationships, padding/corking techniques, and common problems handled by technicians.
